About Metta

About Metta

At Metta, leadership is a high-leverage activity that shapes the world, independent of role. Founded in 1999 by Dr. Liz King, our work is inspired by the ancient philosophy of Metta, which emphasises kindness, wisdom, and compassion as guiding principles. We believe this approach to leadership is the solution to the grand and urgent challenges of our time.

Our Purpose

Our purpose is to cultivate a world where decisions are driven by kindness, practical wisdom, and compassion, creating a positive impact across communities and generations.

Our Values

We are guided by our core values: kindness, practical wisdom, compassion, and acceptance.

In today’s disruptive world, we believe compassion is a competitive advantage, and kindness is a core leadership KPI. These values drive our interactions, decisions, and programs, ensuring we lead with both heart and strategic impact.

The Metta Story

In the mid-1990s, I was leading a multi-country team through the challenges of a complex merger. The process was fraught with fear and uncertainty, and a once vibrant, high-performing group found itself struggling with stress and disengagement. It became clear to me that traditional leadership models were inadequate for guiding teams through such volatility. The pivotal question emerged: How do we develop leaders who can perform and inspire others in the midst of uncertainty and power dynamics?

My academic background in science and business provided no clear answers, but my personal journey led me to explore deeper solutions. This path took me to Harvard Medical School, where I studied mind-body medicine, and to Sydney University for advanced coaching studies. Ultimately, I completed a PhD focused on developing leadership capabilities in uncertain environments.

Throughout my career, I've designed and delivered leadership programs across a wide range of markets, departments, and contexts. As the world has grown increasingly unpredictable, the need for leaders who are anchored in empathy, discernment, and mindfulness has become critical.

At Metta, we firmly believe that leadership grounded in these principles can create a more effective and humane world. My commitment is to support leaders who are ready to enhance their skills and navigate the complexities of modern leadership with confidence and integrity.
